"Amos and Andy"

radio characters of the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll originated the "Amos and Andy" radio comedy show in 1928. Using a black dialect, they created other memorable characters such as "Kingfish," "Sapphire," and "Lightnin'." During the 1950s "Amos and Andy" appeared on television with black actors, but was criticized for its stereotyped portrayal of blacks.
