A Web Site for and about Street Youth

The Rideau Street Youth Enterprises (RSYE) Web site project profiles street youth in Ottawa. This RSYE Web site tells what is really going on in the streets.

The Web site project brings four youths from the Rideau Street Enterprises Centre together to provide the programming and collection of articles and graphics for the site. The participants will be given an opportunity to learn and gain work experience in an integrated computer, graphics, and text environment.

The items placed on the site profile life on the street for youths in Ottawa. The items also provide guidance to facilities which are available to youths in the Ottawa downtown area. One of the major items on the site is Concrete Thoughts, a publication of street youth poetry produced by RSYE.

The web site is on the SchoolNet Digital Collection and made accessible throughout the Internet.

The project is a collaboration among Industry Canada, Rideau Street Youth Enterprises, SchoolNet Digital Collections Program, and the Ottawa Board of Education. Industry Canada is providing the funding for this project. RSYE provides administration, organization, recruiting, and access to programs and information. The SchoolNet Digital Collections Program provides site maintenance and links to the site. The Ottawa Board of Education, through the Continuing Education ABE/ESL program, provides training, site programming, software and hardware, and network access.
