The Lost Dungeons of Norrath introduces an exciting new type of treasure to EverQuest, Augmentations. Using new modular items gained from dungeon adventures, characters are able to modify the powers and effects of their equipment, allowing for a tremendous amount of customization.

Using these new Augmentations, characters can modify existing equipment. For example, by bonding an augmentation item to the breastplate, the breastplate might gain +5 strength. Bonding a different augmentation item to the breastplate could give it +6 wisdom instead. The new items have a wide variety of possible effects and benefits, what we're showing you here is only a small sample.

For example (all of these items are still in beta testing, so they could change):

Everyone remembers their first purchase of a combine weapon to beat up those pesky Wisps. With Augmentations, these items can grow with your character, improving as your character gains experience in the Lost Dungeons of Norrath.

Note that this item has a single Slot type 1 available for an Augmentation. Only Type 1 Augmentation items will combine with this particular item. Type 1 Augmentations are the simplest type. They generally only add or enhance one statistic on the item. The items shown above are both Type 1 Augmentations. Here's another one:

If you wanted to augment your Combine Great Staff with the Flawless Blue Jewel Gem, you would simply place them into the Augmentation Container and hit combine.

The resulting item would be an Augmented Combine Great Staff.

The Augmentation can be removed from the staff by placing it back into the Augmentation Container with the appropriate solvent. The staff will return to normal, but the Augmentation will be destroyed.

Determining what Augmentations your items currently have, or what slots are available for adding an Augmentation, is simple. Just right-click on the item and hold. This will pop up the item information window. In our example above, the Flawless Blue Jewel is the Augmentation on our staff. Clicking on the name of the Augmentation will bring up the information window for that Augmentation.

With the addition of this new kind of item, EverQuest will take on another new aspect. Old items can gain new uses. Equipment can be customized for the need of your particular character, and even for that character's particular situation. These Augmentation items bring variety and options never before seen in EverQuest.
