Into Month Number 9.

I am recovering after having another wisdom tooth pulled out. I am feeling better now but after my flu last week, having such work done caused my immune system to crash hard. After another lost day at work I am back and doing well. I have also finished all the work i intended on doing for the lost gaijin site. Happy with that it is time to move on to another project.

I spoke to my father last night for the first time in a while I was good to speak to him. He seems fine and life in Oz seems to be keeping him happy. He mentioned that Mick Kealty, The AFP comminsoner was one of the guys who used to watch over me when I was a kid hanging out at the police college. The good old days, growing up around the Bomb Squad, and all the other cool divisions of the Barton Police Offices.

Anyway, Now im into Month Number 9 in Japan..what a ride its been..

The politics of Saturday Night

Is being in Japan trendy..? Is speaking Japanese essential..? These were two questions that were asked of me last week by my students. I really have to wonder if Japan is a "must do" thing in one's life. Kinda like climbing Mount Everest, but not.

Its funny actually. I have never considered living in a country based on the fact if it was indeed a fashion statement or would increase status in one's life.

Have you ever seen the movie Air America..? Well, Mel Gibson portrays a middle aged pilot named "Gene" something or other, and points out in that movie how he judges a country based on its "Saturday Night". If i was to do the same after 10 years of travel I would have to say Japan sucks the big one..!!!!

Its all good

I have not really blogged all that much this month. I guess thats because I have been busy at work and busy building the lostgaijin.com website. Its looking good and hope that now it is built it will grow on its own and i can take a step back from it.

Well its sunday. I have not left my apartment in 3 days cuz I have been sick but am well on the way to recovery. My girlfriend was nice enough to come all the way down from Osaka to take care of me.

I do miss my family this time of year. Hope they all have a merry christmas. I dont really have any plans... must think of something to do...

Its going to be christmas soon. ah a real time for reflection I guess. It has certainly been an interesting year. So many changes in my life. If someone had told me a year ago that I would be in the boonies of Japan I would have laughed and poured them another drink. Yet here I am. Ok so where will i end up a year from now..? thats a scary thought.

This whole year has been about getting settled and that I have really started to do. I have a 3 year Visa in Japan, almost a year is up and do intend to stay for the remainder of my sentence..:) but not in the boonies. I am begging my boss tto send me to Kishiwada...ah comon boss...get me out of this hick town. I cant handle it... Plzzzzz....

There is a new job opening at work also and am hoping i get that. Just have to wait and see. Its in my field and will pad my resume a bit better.

well thats it for me..Im gonna watch some pirated TV and get some sleep.

The Flu

Twice in almost 9 months I have been sick. Had a sore throat for a week or more and finally got sick yesturday so much so I had to take the day off work. I didnt really feel the day at all as I was unconcious for most of it. its 4am now and am feeling better.. guess i just needed to get it out of my system. Dealing with Kids all the time, and riding a motorcycle doesnt help, but hey its all good..fast recovering.

Traffic

Well it has been a really busy few days. I have cleaned up the lost gaijin site a lot and now looks really sweet. Has a long way to go but after just 2 weeks it is come along nicely. I have enjoyed working on the project and hope it will evolve further. I am thinking of adding a personals section like asaboo and also making the classifieds run.... so many ideas coming up..... I have also applied for a new position within my company. It sounds like a perfect fit for me and will greatly increase my dwindling monthly teacher pay packet. fingers crossed... I have been feeling a little on edge, mainly cuz I wish i was living in Kishiwada...ah yes I miss my girl there so much... and the country town life is getting really old... but in a few months off I am going...I hope..right Boss..???

Into Month #8

well it has been a really busy week. I have been working on a new project and am really excited about it. kind of a legacy if u will to my being in Japan. I have the day off tomorrow..Thank god...i could use the sleep rest. I have not been sleeping very much these days. Its starting to get really cold... ah i hope my father sends me that balaclava and thermals i asked for otherwise its going to be freezing on the bike.

I am now into my 8th month in Japan. Time flys when ur on the run huh..? Got an email from Baz yesturday, he has some job at Underwater World on the Gold Coast.. Life is tough for some people I guess.

A lot of the teachers we have are changing over in the next 2 months. They have finished out there year and are moving on. I am still going strong. I am on my second wind so to speak. Looking forward to Christmas and the breaks that December offer. I would have also paid my bike off so can start the year strong.
