life here has been pretty good. pretty busy, but pretty good! i am in the process of declaring my IDIM major which is outstanding and exciting! i changed it slightly from my original plan. I am now doing an IDIM in performance technique, asian performance tradition, and christianity.

my course hilights:
TH 3314: Text and the Actor 3.0 credits
TH 3321: Stanislavski and Techniques for Characterization 3.0 credits
TH 3322: Advanced Techniques for Characterization 3.0 credits
TH 4321: Career Preparation for the Actor 3.0 credits
TH 4322: Acting for the Camera 3.0 credits
TH 4532: Makeup for the Actor 2.0 credits

ALL 3441W: Japanese Theater (WI), 3.0 credits
ALL 4353: Chinese Drama 4.0 credits

RELA  1082  - Jesus in History  (HP) 3 credits
RELA  3035  - Introduction to Christianity  3 credits
RELA  3072H  - Honors Course: The New Testament  (HP) 4 credits
RELA  3251  - Modern Study of the Old Testament  3 credits

what i love about this major is that it is so characterisically "me". i've always been one who thinks outside the box and all the traditional majors i've thought of have just restricted me way too much from the other things i love. i submit it for final approval on valentine's day! i hope they say it's okay...

what do i want to do with this major? something along the lines of either asian american theater or music (or even better, musical theater) in the united states, or christian theater/music in japan. i want my final project to be an original theaterical piece about the celebration of christianity across asian and asian american cultures.

in other news, i went to the coffman poster sale and found this gem:

this is none other than a poster from the original japanese release of amelie (one of my top three favorite films of all time)

also, i go into rehearsal on thursday for my new project in my directing class. i have NOTHING. no ideas. NOTHING. it's cute how of all the times my inspiration could choose to abandon me, it chooses now, when i basically depend on it not only to make a good impression on the people who decide my future, but also to pass a crucial class. gaaah.

Trading My Sorrows

Darryl Evans

I'm trading my sorrow
I'm trading my shame
I'm laying them down for the joy of the Lord
I'm trading my sickness
I'm trading my pain
I'm laying them down for the joy of the Lord

And we say yes Lord, yes Lord, yes, yes, Lord
Yes Lord, yes Lord, yes, yes, Lord
Yes Lord, yes Lord, yes, yes, Lord. Amen

I'm pressed but not crushed
persecuted not abandoned
Struck down but not destroyed
I'm blessed beyond the curse
for His promise will endure
And His joy's gonna be my strength

Though the sorrow may last for the night
His joy comes with the morning...

i got the blues
yeah i got the blues
i got the "don't know what i want to do with my life and i'm kinda bummed about it cuz i think i'm gonna live a life as a starving out of work actor and i want to go shopping to cheer myself up but naturally i have no money and i wonder if i'll ever have a successful audition ever again for the rest of my life" blues

i mean it's like
no matter how hard i try
no matter what i do
no matter how qualified i might seem
no matter how much i practice my monologue
or how much drive and desire i have
there is always somebody else at that audition who is just a little more trained
or has "experience" with the director
or looks the part more than i do
or chooses a better monologue
or dresses better
or has a freaky special talent
and gets the part over me

GAAAH. Lord Father, i'm trying to be patient. i really am. but honestly, how much longer is this going to go on? all i want is to be on a stage again. don't tell me that theater isn't where i am meant to be. i don't think i could accept that.

criticize me/give me a hard time over these next few days at your own risk
i cannot be held responsible for anything i may do or say at this point
