Kazan's best film, 25 February 2001
Author:
Jack Christal-Gattanella (filmflamjack@aol.com) from Teaneck. New Jersey, USA
Elia Kazan made this film at the same time he testified in the whole black
listed, communist thing that had people frightened up until a decade ago.
So it is with some admiration and gratification that Kazan's film about
Unions and ratting is the one that won his movie 8 Oscars.
Marlon Brando shows he is one of the best Actors in the history of film here
as Terry, the man who find that he must go against his union. In 2001, the
story isn't anything new (Blue Collar for instance), in fact with it's
hollywood ending it might seem a tad overbearing. And while it could be,
the film is also powerful, acted very well and directed with passion by
Kazan. The Cab scene is one of the most gripping drama scenes to be on
celluloid. Leonard Bernstein music is also memorable here.
