CONTROL YOUR EXPERIENCE: When you set your preferences, you can automatically set your preferred zip code for our movie showtimes service, decide whether you want to see a movie's Main Details or Full Details as your default view when you're looking up movies and you can see a record your vote history so you can see how you've rated various movies (and change your rating if you want).

TALK WITH FELLOW USERS: All of the IMDb's visitors are welcome to view the messages posted on our message boards, but only registered users can post messages. When you're in our boards area we also have a private mail system where you can exchange private messages with other boards users, but only registered users have access to it.

VOTING AND POLLING: To prevent ballot stuffing and help keep things fair, only registered users are allowed to vote in our daily poll and vote for movies on our 1-10 scale.

When you're a registered user and you want to add information for any person or movie, all you need to do is click the "Update" button at the bottom of the page and we'll present you with a web-based form for adding or correcting information.
