Galway, Ireland - July 6, 2004

What an amazing little city!! Very much a tourist town.. but tons of little pubs everywhere, Irish music everywhere, Irish everything everywhere. Great little place.. just mimics everything and anything I'd ever imagined Ireland to be. Even now as I'm typing in this internet cafe, I can hear live bagpipes and music. Nearly all the pubs have live Irish music tonight as well, can't wait for that. I've hit the Irish jackpot here!!

I wish I could describe this little town better.. but its one of those little towns that I'd actually love to come back to again and again and again in my lifetime.. there are very few if any I can really say that about. A lot has to do with my own Irish roots from my father. So there is this strong familiarity with everything.. its like going home to the place I learned about as a kid but didn't quite experience in its entireity.. I just had glimpses of it here and there. But now I get it 100% right there.

Its also pretty cool as the pubs are so much more lively here in Ireland than anywhere I've ever been. They really are a friendly little culture. I noticed that with Alan as well in Dublin. People just start talking right away. There is no such thing as sitting by yourself being quiet. It just won't happen. Also kind of cool seeing kind of older Irish men actually drunk in public or in the streets sipping beer or irish whiskey or something or another.. its almost like observing a movie or something. Great place Ireland. I love it here.

I'd love to write more and more and more about it.. but its a great evening out.. lots of music and people and such a great atmosphere.. I just want to get back off of this computer and explore it!! Great to be in Ireland though.. love observing Irish people.. and so many people with red hair and freckles even.. its just surreal. Not all.. but enough to make it stand out. All kind of Irish people though. Also, interesting both in Dublin and Galway I see a lot of Asians around.. Alan was telling me they are emigrating here more and more.. interesting. Some are even studying the traditional Irish music I believe.. as I saw a few playing around with it. Well, hard to write as I have so much on my mind about it.. going to explore it more..
