Seoul, Korea - April 15, 2003

I'm back in Seoul. I've been here about a week. I was couch surfing for about a week at a few good friend's houses, and ultimately found a job on the southern side of the Han River in Seoul. I'll talk more about those things on another day.

First, just had a few things on my mind. Last night, I went to HongDae, which is the art university of Korea. Its interestingly becoming more and more bohemian. I was surprised to see more and more artists on the streets in that area. Its still not Greenwich Village by any means, but still, nothing else quite like it in Korea anyhow. Also, the discos mostly have cover charges now. They are around 10,000 won for entrance. Probably mainly due to their immense popularity. I don't know a better place to go in Korea.

Also, in the area they have a bar which I liked to call the "Hooters of Korea'. Its brand new, and has orange and white theme. Everyone who works there wears the bright orange hooters hotpants. They look good on the girls, but NOT so good on the guys!! I guess they want in on the fun as well. But its an interesting addition to the Seoul I knew before.

This weekend I also took the 'Foreign Service Exam' at the U.S. Embassy, I saw an old friend there, as well as a new one. If Andrew is reading, and I found out he's a regular reader and he recognized me from this website. Very flattering to have people actually reading this stuff!! Hope you keep on reading. It doesn't happen often, but occassionally, it does, and quite flattering to meet someone who regularly visits this website.

Also, on Saturday night, we had a big party for a bunch of expats who post on this one certain website regarding South Korea. I was finally able to put a face with alot of names from this website. Its also interesting how you kind of know these people but never met them before. That was another highlight to being back in Korea.

Okay, I had to update this page and let everyone know I'm in Korea now!! I'll post more about housing, job situation, and all the like. So far so good!
