MOURNED: Ossie Davis, known for his roles dealing with racial injustice in films such as Roots: The Next Generations and Martin Luther King: The Dream and the Drum and as husband and partner to Ruby Dee, has died at 87. Davis was found in his Miami hotel room Friday, according to Arminda Thomas, who works in his office.

ON HOLD: Juror questioning in Michael Jackson's molestation trial scheduled for Monday will be delayed because the sister of Jackson's attorney is gravely ill. Judge Rodney Melville will, however, hear motions pertaining to media access. No word on when attorneys will begin winnowing down the 250-person jury pool.

FIGHTING BACK: Michael Jackson telling Fox News that he's a "target" because of celebrity and that the news reports about him are "fiction." The interview, conducted by Geraldo Rivera, is scheduled to air Saturday on Fox News Channel.

HER PREROGATIVE: Britney Spears, who canceled part of her 2004 tour due to a knee injury, is suing several insurance companies for refusing to pay nearly $10 million in costs, according to Celebrity Justice. The insurers claim Spears was negligent when she failed to tell them about a past knee surgery. Spears says she forgot about the operation.

ON THE BLOCK: Jennifer Lopez's engagement ring from Ben Affleck being reacquired by Harry Winston's, a spokesperson for the jeweler confirmed. The ring is for sale, but the price is only available to serious buyers.

ON THE MEND: R&B; singer Houston recovering in Los Angeles after gouging out his eye during a trip to London. His publicist denies reports that the singer had attempted to commit suicide.

BLAKE WATCH: The jury in Robert Blake's murder trial on Friday watched the prosecution act out its version of Bonny Lee Bakley's murder. A crime-reconstruction expert concluded that Bakley was shot in rapid succession from several feet away. The defense argued that people trying to help Bakley moved her body before police arrived, making the reconstruction invalid.

SNOOP GONE MILD: Snoop Dogg denied rape allegations against him Friday on Larry King Live. The Grammy-nominated rapper said he was "innocent" of sexually assaulting a woman backstage at the Jimmy Kimmel Show in 2003, saying she was simply after his money. "I've never been inclined to do rape," Snoop told King.

RATTLED AND BUMMED: U2 drummer Larry Mullen Jr. issuing open letter to members of the band's fan club who were shut out of presale tickets to the band's upcoming Vertigo tour -- a perk that the paid membership was meant to ensure. "The idea that our longtime U2 fans and scalpers competed for U2 tickets through our own Website is appalling to me," Mullen wrote. "I want to apologize to you who have suffered that."

WHACKED WEDDING: James Gandolfini and Lora Somoza calling off their engagement, Gandolfini's rep confirmed to the New York Daily News. Somoza will relocate to Los Angeles; Gandolfini will remain in New York.

MILITARY DISCHARGE: JAG star David James Elliott leaving CBS after 10 years on the series to either develop a new series or join an existing series for ABC.
