Safe Shopping Guarantee

The Amazon.com Safe Shopping Guarantee protects you while you shop at Amazon.com, so that you never have to worry about credit card safety. Period.

We guarantee that every transaction you make at Amazon.com will be safe. This means you pay nothing if unauthorized charges are made to your card as a result of shopping at Amazon.com. See guarantee details below.

Why is Amazon.com so safe?

  • Safety in Numbers: When you shop at Amazon.com, you'll be one of millions of customers who have safely shopped with us without credit card fraud.
  • Safe Technology: Our Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software is the industry standard and among the best software available today for secure online commerce transactions. It encrypts all of your personal information, including credit card number, name, and address, so that it cannot be read as the information travels over the Internet.

Still don't want to use your credit card on the Internet?

No problem. Just fill out our order form online. Enter only your card's last five digits and its expiration date. Once you have fully submitted your order, you will be prompted with a phone number that you can use to call in the rest of your card number. Please note that this option is not available for purchases made using Amazon Payments or Amazon Honor System. To read more about Amazon Payments, click here.

Guarantee Details:

  1. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, your bank cannot hold you liable for more than $50 of fraudulent charges. If your bank does hold you liable for any of this $50, Amazon.com will cover the entire liability for you, up to the full $50. Amazon.com will cover this liability only if the unauthorized use of your credit card resulted through no fault of your own from purchases made at Amazon.com while using the secure server.
  2. In the event of unauthorized use of your credit card, you must notify your credit card provider in accordance with its reporting rules and procedures.
  3. The guarantee does not apply to purchases from third-party merchants who process their own credit card payments (such as Nordstrom, Eddie Bauer, and Spiegel).

Using Amazon Payments

Amazon Payments lets you use the same credit card you have on file with Amazon.com to pay for items you buy from others.

Orders that Use Payments

When you buy a used or collectible item at Amazon Marketplace or from an Amazon Merchant, you can pay via Amazon Payments. All third-party sellers on our Auctions, zShops, and Amazon Marketplace platforms must be registered for Payments. Payments is the only accepted payment method for Marketplace.*

(* For Auctions and zShops, sellers may offer additional payment options. Please note that Auctions and zShops sales greater than $2475 exceed our Payments limit and another payment option, such as escrow, will need be arranged between buyer and seller.)

When using Amazon Payments for a Marketplace or Merchant transaction, you may use a credit card or an Amazon.com gift certificate. Amazon Payments does not support payment by check, money order, or PayPal.

Amazon Payments Safety

  • Amazon Payments transactions for Amazon Marketplace, Auctions, and zShops are covered up to $2,500 by our Amazon.com A-to-z Guarantee. (Non-Payments purchases are covered only up to $250.) In addition, most Amazon Merchant orders, with some exceptions, use Payments and are covered under our Guarantee terms. For those exceptions and more information about our terms of coverage, please take a moment to review the Amazon.com A-to-z Guarantee.
  • Amazon Payments transfers the amount you indicate but never passes along your full credit card information. Such credit card information is kept strictly confidential, just between you and Amazon.com. Please note that if you order from Circuit City, or one of a few other select merchants, we will provide the merchant with the last four or five digits of your credit card number for identification purposes.
  • The Amazon.com Safe Shopping Guarantee (provided above) protects you when you buy goods or services directly from Amazon.com, so that you never have to worry about credit card safety. Amazon Payments uses a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) so that all the information you enter is encrypted before transmission.

Convenience

  • You can issue 1-Click payments to Amazon Marketplace sellers, but not to Amazon Merchants. Note: 1-Click payments are immediate for these orders. You do not have 90 minutes to cancel your order.
  • You can see a record of all your Amazon Payments transactions online. For Amazon Merchant or Marketplace buyers, click the Your Account button in the upper right corner of your screen. Auctions and zShops buyers should visit the Your Account section of our Auctions and zShops web site and click to "View all recent purchases made online with Amazon Payments."

Note: Due to the slightly different nature of our Amazon Marketplace Web site, it is not possible to enter the last 5 digits of your credit card and telephone us with your full credit card information.

Credit Card Declines

If we are unable to charge your card successfully for an Amazon Marketplace order, we will send an e-mail notification with a link to resubmit payment, at which time you can update your payment information or authorize another attempt to charge. We cannot re-try your credit card for you. If payment is unsuccessful more than once, or the order is more than 3 days old, the order will be canceled. If this occurs, please feel free to return to our store to place another order.

At this time, we cannot accept resubmitted payments on declined Merchant orders.

Updating a Card

If payment is successful, your card will be charged at the time of purchase. We have no means by which to alter the credit card for an Amazon Merchant or Marketplace order after it has been submitted. To cancel an order, you will need to contact your seller to make arrangements. Seller contact information is available through Your Account.

If you would simply like to update a credit card on your account, you'll find our Help page instructions under Adding & Deleting Credit Cards.
