The Complete Psionic Power Cards

Complete Psionic Power Cards
From: The Other Game Company
Reviewed by: Bill Perman

Complete Psionic Power Cards is a new Supplement from The Other Game Company. The folks at The Other Game Company have created a PDF that aims to bring convenience to GMs and players of psionic characters. Instead of slowing game play by constantly referencing the Psionics Handbook for clarification and in-game rules, now players can use Psionic Power Cards to reference their powers quickly and easily. Game Masters can also use the cards for their NPCs or as handouts to players of psionic characters.

page #4
“OUR GOALS
First, we decided to split the Complete Psionic Power Cards up by class, because this made the cards most convenient to use for players and GMs alike: need all the spells of a level 3 wilder? No problem, just print out the first three or four pages of power cards from the relevant PDF.
Second, there are many powers that point to different spells: “This power works exactly like that other power, except…”. Well, we don’t like that, so we’ve changed it. Each power is now complete, without further reference. Because some powers even cross-reference spells, that seemed even more important to us. A few powers work differently for different classes, and we adjusted these accordingly. ”

For even more convenience, once you download the ZIP files you’ll find a variety of PDFs. These PDFs are in fact volumes, broken down into various classes. For example, if you’re looking for power cards related to the psychic warrior, rather than scrolling through pages and pages, simply open the volume on psychic warriors. Then, each page is broken down into nine cards, listed alphabetically by power. The supplement suggests that if you want cards printed front/back, to simply print the even numbered pages first, then load them back into your printer tray and print off the odd numbered pages (see your printer manual on how to load paper to print double-sided).

The intro goes over the company’s goals for this product, a F.A.Q. section, as well as instructions on how to use the cards. It also contains oversized cards for select powers, like Astral Caravan and Metamorphosis. The other volumes cover Psions and Wilders, Psion Disciplines, Psychic Warrior, Psionic Fist, War Mind and Psionic Spells. The final volume contains blank power cards, for use with homebrewed psionic abilities or powers contained in future supplements. You can print them out plank and hand-write them in, or you can actually type them in yourself before you print.

“Also Available from TOGC:
The Complete Spell Cards
Every spell out of the 3.5 SRD put into the same spell card layout you may already know from our blank Spell Cards, and very similar to the Complete Psionic Power Cards, collected in one large PDF/ZIP. Each spellcasting class (even the SRD prestige classes) will receive its own PDF, with all the class-specific spells (the Cleric Spells will also include each and every Domain Spell not normally on the cleric’s spell list) sorted by level. ”

The Complete Spell Cards and the Complete Monster Cards are both available for download. Together with the Complete Psionic Power Cards, TOGC offers GMs and players supplements that should make game play more convenient. Still, such a product may not appeal to all players. To some, these cards may not be convenient at all. Some players love to delve into their characters. In addition to the character sheet, many players keep additional notes, files and reference charts for their characters. To these players, the Complete Psionic Power Cards are for them. Others are just content to use their sheet, with a few notes etched in the margins. The thought of having to organize and safeguard additional pages, cards, notes, etc can turn some players off the idea of gaming. To these players, this card system may not be for them.

In conclusion,
While this product isn’t on the level of “must have” like other supplements, it still has its place at your gaming table. If you are looking to do away with the annoying habit of passing books across the table, knocking over miniatures and soda bottles in the process, you may want to check this product out. A lot of work obviously went into this product and it shows. Rest assured, once you start using them on a regular basis, you never want to go back.
