Soon the SRD will be revised determining what type of content and genre will be acceptable. Sooner or later, the d20 companies will be forced to get in line or get out of the business, and if they do, they'll go out of business, because the d20 market pretty much dominates the rpg industry. The other companies are just barely hanging on, and I'm sure Wizzo has plans to put a nail in their coffins too. This industry makes me sick to the core that when it was once game companies putting out products for the gamers has been reduced to fascist corporations putting out their dullered and droll gruel that is a mere shadow of their games. I'm putting all my stuff up on ebay and getting out while this industry breathes its last. |

WotC: Really Dumb Move. It just engendered ill will with fans, eliminated the prior legal separation they had with content with anything in the d20 license, and made 3rd party publishers very wary. It's an example of what happens when Hasbro keeps changing the upper management, putting in executives with little grasp of the gaming industry, and getting rid of the people who created the d20 STL & OGL. At least they can't repeal the SRD/OGL.
White Wolf: Maybe good, maybe bad. Possibly very bad for business, but if they handle the end of the world with any talent, it will be meaningful they actually had the nerve to conclude a setting like that, one that did always harp over the fact that the end of the world is nigh.
Mage Knight 2.0: I'm not a mage knight player, but what really needed a change, I never heard any complaints. It seems like just another hype to sell more minis.
.hack card game? Sounds just like yet another licensed CCG, nothing special there. Will probably be a very moderate success (if the game is produced in moderation), or a dismal failure (if mass marketed and shoved everywhere like the Survivor CCG)
Eberron? Yawn, lots of glitz, little detail. WotC had plenty of fine settings on the shelf if they wanted to revive one. They've licensed out Ravenloft & Dragonlance, a single-book revival of Planescape (as an addendum to MotP) would probably be a hit, and they haven't touched Mystara or Birthright in eons. Why are they paying a small fortune to create a glizy pseudo-steampunk (or so it looks so far) setting. Is this really the best thing they had of those thousands of entries?
Gen Con changing dates? Well, at least there will be hotel rooms available instead of Gamers vs. Race Fans. They also called for public opinion before making their choice.
SJ Dropping Minis. Well, if it isn't making money, they stop making them, business is funny that way, especially relatively small ones like SJG.

Originally, you could not post Palladium mechanics on the web, even if it was just to post your character. When someone on the forum mentioned that the OGL allowed you to post things, and thus you could post your material using d20 mechanics, Palladium turned around and changed their policy immediately, banning such because they wished to prevent 'potential lawsuits with other companies', as if WotC would care... |
