A guide to European based organisations These pages are designed
as a guide for those interested in information about intergovernmental (European
Union, United Nations), Non-Government and Indigenous Support Organisations based
in Europe. Intergovernmental Organisations - United
Nations
The United Nations bodies deal in many diverse areas affecting
Indigenous Peoples including human rights, environment, health, trade, labour,
biodiversity and cultural heritage to name a few. The United Nations Office of
the High Commissioner for Human Rights is based in Geneva and currently co-ordinates
the Nations United Working Group on Indigenous Populations (UNWGIP).
- Commonwealth
The
Commonwealth is a unique family of 54 developed and developing nations around
the world. Commonwealth Secretariat is based in London. The Commonwealth hold
meetings of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings every 2 years. The Commonwealth
has a process of participation of non-governmental organisations, which include
a commonwealth human rights and Indigenous peoples' organisations.

This section provides
basic information on the Council of European Union, European Commission and the
European Parliament. This section is an overview of current indigenous issues
