How to Suggest Your Site
Info Center Home
The Yahoo! Directory is organized by subject. Most sites in it are suggested to us by users. Sites are placed in categories by Yahoo! editors, who visit and evaluate your suggestions and decide where the sites best belong. We do this to ensure that Yahoo! is organized in the best possible way, making the directory easy to use, intuitive, helpful, and fair to everyone.

With this in mind, we ask that you follow three simple, yet important steps if you have a site (URL) you'd like to suggest:

Step 1: Check to See if Your Site Is Already in Yahoo!

This first step is important, because if your site is already listed in the Yahoo! Directory, you need go no further. You can check by searching on your URL and clicking on the "Directory" option in the navigation bar located below the search box. If your site appears in the "Directory Site Matches" on the resulting page, you are listed in the Yahoo! Directory.

(Note: If your site is already listed in the Yahoo! Directory but you want to change its comments, title, and/or placement, you need to use the change form. This is an entirely different process.)

Step 2: Find the Appropriate Category in Yahoo!

Finding an appropriate category for your site is at the heart of this process. Remember that Yahoo! editors visit each site suggested via Yahoo! Express, and proper categorization on your part helps us process and review your suggestions quickly.

What is an appropriate category? Here's a list of important pointers explaining how we organize the Yahoo! Directory.

If you are suggesting a scheduled one-time or recurring topical chat or live audio or video broadcast, please submit directly to Yahoo! Broadcast.

For sites accessible through mobile devices, sites for our Yahooligans! Directory, and sites in Chinese, Danish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, or Swedish, please visit the appropriate Yahoo! property or service. Sites that are in a foreign language represented by our international directories will not be added to www.yahoo.com.

Step 3. Suggest Your Site From the Appropriate Category

Once you've found the most appropriate category for your site, you are ready to suggest it. Just click on the "Suggest a Site" link on the top right of the category page (located next to the "Advanced Search" link in the gray bar). Again, there is a list of important pointers to help you establish where your site belongs. Also, remember that the final placement of your site is determined by Yahoo!'s editors.

Suggest a Site

When you click on "Suggest a Site" in the appropriate category, you'll see an online form asking for information about your site. (If you are suggesting your business site somewhere within our main commercial categories, you will see a link to the fee-based Yahoo! Express submission process -- required for commercial sites. For more information about Yahoo! Express, please read our FAQ. To suggest a site through Yahoo! Express, click here.)

In the "category" space on the form, you'll see the name of the category you've chosen. Please be prepared to provide, among other information, your site's title, URL, and a brief description.

Finally, thanks for the site. Thanks for contributing to Yahoo!. By following the above steps (in order, no less!) you're helping us process sites in a timely manner.
