December 6, 2003 -- The Wallace Foundation is donating $6 million to the city's three public library systems to support and expand after-school programs, Mayor Bloomberg announced yesterday.

The gift was made in response to Bloomberg's $36 million Emergency Campaign that kicked off in May, seeking help from the private sector for cash-strapped city facilities.

"The Wallace Foundation's generous gift to the Emergency Campaign will help ensure that our city's 212 wonderful libraries remain our city's information gateways," the mayor said.

The three library systems - New York, Brooklyn and Queens - will each receive $2 million.
