Getting Help Helping Others
Reading Birth of a Philanthropist (issue of Sept. 19-25), I was immediately struck by the timeliness of this report in helping others know of the services and funding that might become available in the future.
I head the Faith Based Initiative Resource Center, which is trying to increase the capacities of small and emerging spiritual-based groups and churches. This increase in capacity would enable those small groups who might not have the technical, human and financial resources the opportunity to expand the services they've been providing for years. The reason for opening this center is to ensure that those least serve receive services critical to their self-sufficiency.

Thanks from a Unitas Fan
As a long-time Baltimore Colts fan, Bill Peterson's column on Johnny Unitas (The Only Real Quarterback, issue of Sept. 19-25) is one of the best I've read in the days since his death, and I have read many. He was the ultimate quarterback and just also happened to be the nicest guy you would ever want to meet.
Thanks for the article. It's good to know that others appreciate him outside of Baltimore.
Do Some Real Protesting
I seem to be one of the few left-wingers who's against the boycott. I agree, with Noam Chomsky, that for the most part boycotts don't work.
What you must do is go at the actual power structure itself. I mean, I don't see any of the boycotters boycotting their Cinergy bills or water bills. Where is the massive demonstration at P&G; or Chiquita? These are the power centers that actually fuel Cincinnati, but they remain untouched. I also saw no boycotters at the Reds or the Bengals games. Why won't Amanda Mayes go on tax revolt? This is real action, not the piddly crap that the Coalition for a Just Cincinnati is about.
Some Uncle Tom like Bill Cosby boycotting means nothing. Real protesting is about taking on the real power center. So, boycotters, either quit this wussy boycott or do some real protesting. I might even agree with you then. Peace and Anarchy.

Correction
The article Lovemaking Permitted (issue of Sept. 19-25) referred to "the National Public Radio program This American Life." The program is in fact distributed to public radio stations nationwide by Public Radio International.
