Happy B-Day, Cincymusic.com
Web site cincymusic.com, one of the best resources for musicians and local music fans in the city, turns three years old in December. To celebrate, there will be a party/concert at the Southgate House on Saturday featuring an impressive line-up of local musicians. Saturday will also mark the launch of the site's new redesign, as well as a new online local CD and merchandise store.

Local acts appearing include Bagg, Clabbergirl, Crosley, Dophesus, DW Project, Len's Lounge, Levelnine, Saving Ray, Tornado Green and Tracy Walker. Several acoustic performers will play throughout the night, including Messerly and Ewing and members of Pebbles Overflow and Hoodwink. Doors open at 9 p.m.

Rumors, Lies and General Misunderstandings
· Congrats to local Pop/Rock faves Clabbergirl, who took home the grand prize at this year's 97Xposure competition. The group came out on top following a three-band play-off at Bogart's on Nov. 23, performing alongside finalists Buckra and Pocket Furys. The band will receive musical equipment, studio time and an opening slot for a national show at Bogart's. At woxy.com you will soon be able to sample MP3s of all of the Top 20 finalists from the competition.

· New local band Pay the Girl, which formed in March, has reportedly been signed to TVT Records, home to artists like Sevendust, Guided By Voices, KMFDM and The Eastsidaz. The group was signed following a showcase for TVT's Lennie Johnson just a few weeks back. Pay the Girl, which features Jason Phelps, Mark Cooper, Mike Georgin, Josh Seurkamp and Drew Phillips, will next appear at the 9/11 relief benefit at Taft Theater on Dec. 9.

·A new workshop/showcase night for local musicians and songwriters will kick off Tuesday at Cody's Cafe in Corryville. The weekly event is hosted by singer/songwriter Ryan Adcock and will feature two new performers each week. Adcock and Cody's music director will then sit down with the newcomers and offer advice on a variety of music biz topics, including how to book shows, put together press kits, improve their writing and performing and build a fan base. For more information on how to participate, send an e-mail to Puck@codyscafe.com or ryanadcockband@aol.com.

· CityBeat would like to extend a hearty "thank you" to all of the artists, music fans, sponsors and venues who participated in the first ever Cincinnati Music Week (Nov. 6-11) and the fifth annual Cincinnati Entertainment Awards. The events were all well attended, the amazing musical line-ups at the various clubs were something to behold and the awards program was a complete blast. Most importantly, over $2,000 was raised for the LINKS program. Can't wait 'til next year.

· The band Wojo performs at a benefit affair on Friday at Jack Quinn's in Covington. Attendees can buy cheap Guinness pints, with the money raised being matched by the beer company and donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Wojo will also give half of their earnings for the night to the LLS. Music starts at 9 p.m. For more on Wojo, check wojo.sloth.org.

· A slew of local female artists, including singer/songwriter Andrea Rosenthal and members of Venus Mission, are uniting to raise money for the women and innocent people of Afghanistan. The 8 p.m. event takes place Sunday at Sitwell's Café in Clifton and will feature music, poetry, performance art and fashion displays. For more information on the cause, check www.rawa.org.

· Local group Simpletons are making an in-store appearance at Everybody's Records in Pleasant Ridge on Saturday. The band will perform a set in support of their latest album, Method For Passion. Music starts at 3 p.m.

· New band Broken Head makes its live debut Thursday at Top Cat's, opening for the Mud Pies. The band features former members of Bulbous and Blue Othello.

· Local community radio station WAIF (88.3 FM), a staunch supporter of local music, is celebrating its 26th anniversary on Sunday at the 20th Century Theater in Oakley. The party starts at 6 p.m. and will feature a variety of local music and comedy performers.

· Singer/songwriter Belinda Scroggins is the featured musical guest on the City Nights television program this week. The show airs on Friday at 8:30 and Monday at 11 p.m. on Northern Kentucky cable's public access station. The show airs on Cincinnati's Time Warner system on Dec. 6 at 10 p.m. on channel 24.
