Self-released in their homebase of Portland, Ore., in 1997, the Pinehurst Kids' debut, Minnesota Hotel, is now getting some much-deserved attention thanks to the recent re-release of the album by Chicago's 4 Alarm Records. The 11-song disc is an endearingly emotive and raw Indie Pop album by a band that is energetically punchy but at the same time capable of smart layering and textures and honest, intelligent lyrics that lend the record a deeper-than-you-think charm. Crafty songwriting, fluttering guitar work and irresistible hooks make the Kids a band with a lot of staying power, and while they are often compared with so-called "Emo" bands, they actually have a lot wider appeal. Suffice to say, if you like Superchunk, The Replacements, Built to Spill or Sunny Day Real Estate, this group could be your next favorite band.

At Sudsy Malone's on Wednesday with The Stapletons.
