Dance Fever
The Lift dance night at downtown's DV8 is really stepping up their national bookings this month. For Oct. 14, the club has booked two major electronic/dance tours. The Mixer Tour features DJ Craze, a winner of the DMC world championship of DJs, and Miami's DJ Infamous. On that same night, Banco De Gaia, a Trance/Techno band from England will play a set. Banco De Gaia is the brainchild of electronic music pioneer Toby Marks and the group released its latest full-length, The Magical Sounds of Banco De Gaia, this past spring.

Next up, the Moonshine Over America Tour comes to Lift the following Thursday, Oct. 21. The tour hit Lift last year with returning electronic band Cirrus, but this year's event features the legendary, world-renowned Carl Cox. Cox is widely considered the best of the best in the Techno/House DJ world. The Cincinnati stop is one of only a couple for Cox. Also on that bill are Micro and Omar Bantana. More information on these shows are available by calling 648-9647.

Another Loss
The city's music community lost another one of their own last week. John Arcady, who was playing drums with the Mary Ann Kindel Band and White Lightning Express, was shot and killed on Sept. 27 (suspects have been arrested) while driving his taxi. Arcady was a touring drummer for several years, before returning to Cincinnati just a couple of years ago.

In a statement from the Mary Ann Kindel Band, Kindel remembered Arcady: "We would like you to remember him not as another victim of senseless brutality, but as a special person. John was an intelligent, talented, honest and hard working individual. He will be greatly missed." Spill It sends its condolences to Arcady's family and friends.

Rumors, Lies and General Misunderstandings
· Once again we are gearing up for what will be our third annual Cincinnati Entertainment Awards celebrating local music and theater talent. Our nominees are in -- now it's up to you to vote. Check out the ballot in the nominating guide and pick your favorites or check out the on-line ballot on the CityBeat Web site (www.citybeat.com). This year's ceremonies will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 22. More details coming soon.

· Eclectic Roots deconstruction workers Johnny Smoke will be making a few rare appearances in the region this week. On Thursday, they'll be at the BarrelHouse, as part of the WNKU Homegrown Series and Friday night they're at the Canal Street Tavern in Dayton with local heroes The Ass Ponys and the duo Cash Money.

· If you're a listener of The Chris and Rob Show on WAIF (88.3 FM) every Tuesday at 10 p.m., you know that the dynamic duo love to talk music along with their usual shenanigans. The show has a couple of great music interviews lined up for October. This Tuesday, the program has tentatively scheduled an interview with producer/musician Bill Laswell about his recent Material album that features a myriad of Hip Hop artists. On Oct. 19, the duo chat up Marshall Crenshaw about his recent release.

· The Converging Currents Composer's Workshop are putting on another adventurous concert on Saturday. The Workshop is put together by Paul Hogan, keyboardist for Ray's Music Exchange, and local composer Mike Barnhart. The performance on Saturday entails artists and audience members taking paddle boats to the middle of the lake at Miami Whitewater Forest for an impromptu concert. Paddling starts at 1:30 p.m.
