Lisa Molyneux

By Katie Moser

Lisa Molineux

Lisa Molyneux had to add a little pigskin to the Phantom of the Slopera and Pig-malion, since their heads weren't designed to wear hats. She had to build up their craniums before they could don full costumes. She added a staff, complete with pig skull for the Phantom, created for the Broadway Series. For the Playhouse in the Park's Pig-malion, she added cheek bones and lips. "It seems like most artists are treating the pigs like canvases," she says. "I'm trying to remember that they are pigs."

Molyneux is a scenic artist for the Playhouse, where she paints everything from large backdrops to furniture. Although she looks forward to painting sets, she really enjoys her work with the Playhouse's Adopt-A-School program, through which scenic artists get to paint with elementary students in the Cincinnati Public Schools.

She's also been working on personal oil paintings and watercolors. Her personal paintings are different from her work at the Playhouse: They involve people instead of settings. At the Playhouse, Molyneux says, "I have to paint what other people want me to. At home, I can paint what I want."
