Next to seeing art, learning about how the artists make it is pretty fascinating. "How do you start? When do you stop? And where do you get your ideas?" Seven prominent artists plan to discuss their approaches to art at the CONTEMPORARY ARTS CENTER on Thursday at 7 p.m. Some of these artists work collaboratively, which brings up even more interesting questions. The panel -- DEBBIE BROD, VICKI MANSOOR, CHARLOTTE HUNTER, JILL ROWINSKI, KATE KERN, whose work is now featured in the Weston Art Gallery, KAREN DUNPHY and DIANE FISHBEIN -- covers an impressive list of media. 345-8400.
However, if just looking is the agenda, it doesn't get any better than the combination of furniture, drawings and paintings at The Carnegie in Covington. MARK SCHIEFERSTEIN takes up the ground floor Main Gallery with some bewitching figure compositions, way above the cut. And get this: He's a freshman! This is his first solo exhibit, and he has a résumé encompassing his entire two-year career. Talk about a natural. 491-2030.
Art is in the ear of the beholder. Artist-in-residence TOM MARIONI stretches creative interpretation to a more indigenous art of our region by performing his "Beer Drinking Sonata for 13 Players" at the Chidlaw Gallery on Friday, 5-7 p.m. He will be assisted by Art Academy students. Somehow this all falls into place when one realizes that the renowned sculptor is a 1959 grad of that institution. 562-8746.
SUZANNA TERRILL GALLERY is celebrating its first anniversary with some truly fine art. It's TONY BECKER and ROBERT HEBENSTREIT with new work about Cincinnati. Becker has made candid poses taken on the streets of the city into big-brush, small paintings all about color and gesture, and Hebenstreit takes on our own hometown symbol, "Steamboats," which will be up through Tall Stacks, Oct. 13-17 Our congratulations to all. 665-4500.
