Bob Schneider

For local musicians who think that working diligently to be at the top of your local scene will never pay off in the long run in terms of national success, one need only look at the story of Austin's Bob Schneider, which indicates otherwise. Schneider served as a bandleader for numerous Austin bands over the past several years, playing the club scene with "party" bands like Joe Rockhead, The Scabs and the Ugly Americans, whose Jam/Funk style earned them opening slots with the H.O.R.D.E. tour and Dave Matthews. Last year, he swept the Austin Music Awards, winning five categories. Now Schneider is on the road supporting his solo debut, Lonelyland, on Universal Records. While there is a light-groove glide on the songs of Lonelyland, the album is far more subtle than Schneider's band output, focusing on his exquisite songwriting and sounding a bit like the organic Pop of Pete Yorn's magnificent musicforthemorningafter but with a bit more rootsiness.
