Europe is represented on the Kangnido Map at the far left. The Mediterranean, Iberian
and Italian peninsulas and the Black Sea are clearly visible. Africa, although generally
shaped correctly, is depicted with a large lake in the middle. The center of the map is
dominated by India and China, which have been drawn together to form one amorphous
land mass. Between India and Africa the Arabian peninsula and the Red Sea are clearly
visible. Despite its distortions, the Kangnido Map is much more comprehensive than any
contemporary European effort. |
