| Construction began on the Parthenon in 477 BC. Two architects, Ictinus and Callicrates, under the supervision of the sculptor Phidias, built the temple. This photograph depicts the northwest corner of the marble structure, with its Doric columns. The sanctuary of Athena rises at the cornice. | ||
