Byrd getting off the ground
Despite trade rumors and an average hovering around the Mendoza line, Marlon Byrd is in the process of rebuilding his confidence, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported June 2. With a 2-for-2 effort June 1 in the second game of a doubleheader, Byrd boosted his average from .193 to .212. According to the newspaper, Byrd's average has been under .200 entering all but five of his 32 games this season. "It's been very difficult," Byrd told The Inquirer. "... I come in every year thinking I'm going to start off hot. It didn't happen. I didn't think 80 at-bats later I'd be under .200."
