Scouting Report 2002 Season As he'd done the year before, Rolando Arrojo began the 2002 season in the bullpen and pitched his way back into the rotation. Initially he succeeded as a starter last summer, only to suffer shoulder problems that robbed him of effectiveness and ultimately knocked him out of action. He also developed a disc problem in his back later on, and pitched less than 20 innings after the end of June. Pitching & Defense Arrojo throws sinkers and cutters at various speeds from various angles, using some of the same tricks as fellow countryman Orlando Hernandez. He makes it work well against righthanded hitters, but lefthanded hitters pick up the ball well against him and regularly punish him. Recurring shoulder miseries put his ability to stay in the rotation for any length of time very much in doubt. He's become proficient at cutting off the running game and always has performed adequately in the field. 2003 Outlook A free agent, Arrojo has shown he still can be effective when healthy. He'll likely land a roster spot somewhere this spring if he's physically able. |
