Tendinitis in shoulder forces Valdes to disabled list
Texas right-hander Ismael Valdes has been scratched for his scheduled start Saturday because of stiffness in his shoulder.

Rangers May 18: Activated pitcher Ismael Valdes from the 15-day disabled list; designated pitcher Esteban Yan for assignment.
Rangers April 25: Placed pitcher Ismael Valdes on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 20, with tendinitis in the back of his right shoulder.

Valdes recovered some of the velocity in his fastball, occasionally topping 90 MPH, but he did not recover all of the command he needs to succeed. His curve is good, although he lost his feel for the pitch toward the end of the season, and his change and slider are strictly complementary pitches. If, on any given day, he can put his fastball where he wants, he can keep his team in the game. More...
