Internet Resources to Examine:

Below are several World Wide Web home pages related to this week's reading. After you have read Loewen and Hollitz, select at least two sites to examine. Pick sites with content interests you. As you examine the sites, consider what these resources offer that your readings do not provide.

As you may know, anyone can put a home page on the web. It's important as you cruise the Internet to note who is responsible for the home pages: the Library of Congress, a university, an individual or group. These links were selected because:

The African-American Mosaic: Extensive Library of Congress Resource Guide for the Study of Black History and Culture.

Black Resistance to Slavery in the U.S. : Slavery exhibit of the AFRO-Americ@'s Black History Museum.

New Hampshire African American History: excerpts from books and documents.

Persistence of the Spirit: interpretive study of the black experience in Arkansas. Examine the Historical Narrative and Photo Scrapbook. (Note: photos enlarge when "clicked".)

Black Los Angeles History: a short, "historically correct" history of L.A.

Abraham Lincoln: Information and links from POTUS, Presidents of the United States site of the Internet Public Library.

Understanding the Past: a guide to history from the Harper's Ferry National Historical Park, site of John Brown's attack on slavery.

The Cemetery:  "Small Towns, Black Lives" - Photos, documents, and text derived from the study of a cemetery in the black community that existed in Port Republic, N.J., 1851-1924.

African-American Pamphlets, 1880-1920:  Attitudes and ideas of African-Americans between Reconstruction and the First World War: the arts, ethnicity, religion, politics, war.

The Birth of a Nation: film critic review of the 1915 movie with a detailed description of the story line; some posters.
