Currently, our workshop program is under revision.
There will be a limited number of workshops offered
for a short while.
It has been a challenge to schedule
workshops to accommodate varying
faculty obligations. During the Winter 2003 quarter,
we will initiate workshops on demand. While
there will be some regularly-scheduled workshops,
most
will be offered after sufficient interest in them
is evident. There will be a catalog of workshops
that
can be provide on specific days and times. Interested
faculty
and staff will be able to express interest in taking
a particular workshop. When there are a sufficient
number of interested participants, the workshop will
be scheduled
for a specific date and time; interested participants
will be notified. Scheduled workshops will be open
to additional participants. We hope that workshops
on demand
will enhance our support efforts
In the interim, workshop handouts accompanying current
and past workshops might be of interest. They are linked
to workshop descriptions in our catalog.
This service offers first-time web users
a Jumpstart by building a course page and a personal page
from a choice of several original templates. Just give
our web designers your information on a disk and we will
do the rest! Mark Allen, Geography and Anthropology, says:
"The Jumpstart program was an excellent way for
a novice in the world of Web page design to quickly get
a useful site up and running."
Knowing that supporting learning and
teaching
is a yearlong activity, we continue to offer telephone
support (x4228) and walk-in assistance in our Faculty
Annex (building
1, 229) and in-office support by request. Beginning Winter
Quarter 2003, telephone and walk-in support is also
available in the Faculty Lab (98-C5-9). Telephone support
is
available from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday
through Thursday, and from 9:00 AM to noon on Fridays.
Walk-in support is available during these times,
either in the Faculty Lab or Faculty Annex.
Our team of
patient, talented Instructional Technology Assistants
(ITAs) can work with you to develop your skills with
software
applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. They can
help you develop web pages using programs like Dreamweaver,
use WebCT, our campus online learning environment, create
short movies (iMovie), or add graphics through scanning,
authoring in Photoshop, taking digital photos, and use
your computer more easily and safely.

We're growing! This summer thirty-eight
faculty members representing all seven colleges joined
the SWIM "hall of fame" bringing our numbers
to almost 200 satisfied, techno-savvy SWIM graduates.
Our intensive summer workshops, initiated in 1997, provide
faculty with hands-on instruction in the latest web-authoring
tools. Our goal is to enhance teaching and learning through
web-based technologies in an atmosphere of faculty mentoring
faculty. Visit the SWIM
web site and see what your colleagues have accomplished
over their summer vacation.
The WebCT
User's Group supports the growing number of faculty,
over 100, who have chosen to use WebCT to supplement
their
classes with a rich online course environment. Visit
our web site and log on to CPP WebCT User's Group
to see streaming
video of our best WebCT practices demonstrations, get
answers to your Frequently Asked Questions, locate
online
publisher resources for your courses, find WebCT documentation,
or pose a question on our discussion board to get
