Williams to have surgery

Running back Ricky Williams, who led the NFL with 1,853 yards rushing, will have arthoscopic surgery on his left shoulder in the next few weeks. It's no big deal, it's something I should have had done a year ago," Williams told the Miami Herald on Feb. 5. Williams is not expected to miss the offseason program or any of the offseason minicamps. The procedure was delayed to accommodate a trip Williams is taking to Costa Rica. Williams complained early in the season of pain in the shoulder, but the problem was never significant enough for him to miss playing time.
Defending Wannstedt
| | It has been 18 years since Marino and the Dolphins played in Super Bowl XIX. |
In his heart and soul, Dan Marino will always be a Dolphin. When asked about the criticism coach Dave Wannstedt has been taking for the team's 9-7 finish -- despite the presence of Ricky Williams, Jason Taylor and six Pro Bowl players -- Marino defended Wannstedt, the Palm Beach Post reported. "I think the plan is there -- Ricky running the ball and playing good defense," Marino told the newspaper. "What Dave needs to do is find a way to finish games. If I was coaching the game -- and I'm not a coach -- I would stress in the fourth quarter we've got to make plays that change the game. That's the problem they've had. Quite honestly, I think at times we had it, too, when I was there."
