Cover Art Ryuichi Sakamoto
Anger/Grief
[Ninja Tune]
Rating: 7.4

Having spent time in the trenches working out with his innovative late '80s band Yellow Magic Orchestra, composing film scores, and inventing an entirely new music sub-genre, Neo-Geo, Ryuichi Sakamoto's one experienced mutha you don't wanna mess with.

Anger/Grief is a quick fix of remixes from his most recent effort, Discord, which contains four movements: anger, grief, prayer and salvation. And who better to remix Sakamoto's work than the new- school innovators-- the kids down at Ninja Tune Records?

For containing a mere five tracks, this disc's pretty much got it goin' on. "Grief" is channeled with style through our lord and master, Amon Tobin, who makes a swanky funk of the otherworldly trancewave. Another notable moment is Chocolate Weasel's spooked- up take on "Anger," comprised of a handful of krunchy beats, each with its own chewy nougat center. ...Of course, what makes Anger/Grief so incredibly listenable is that you can dance to it.
