Scouting Report

Pitching
Pitching coach Dave Duncan worked with Hermanson on mechanics, something with which Hermanson has always struggled. Hermanson began finding a more consistent release point, which helped both his command and the movement of his 90-92 MPH fastball and slider. He also began getting more outs with both his cutter and changeup, which helped him greatly improve his effectiveness against lefthanded hitters. His control remains the greatest obstacle to becoming a big winner. But late in the season, he finally began showing signs of reducing his always-high walk totals and pitch counts.


Defense & Hitting
Hermanson has a very good pickoff move. With the help of catcher Mike Matheny, he allowed only seven stolen bases last year with a success rate of only 50 percent. He is just an average fielding pitcher. With a career average under .100, Hermanson usually is incapable of helping himself with the bat. He collected just one hit after July 15 last season.
