TURNING POINT: Heart patient got up close and personal with a killer
A decade ago, J.R. Johnson-Wahlberg of St. Paul lost 86 pounds and kept it off by practicing a low-fat lifestyle. Then, she quit smoking a 27-year habit the day she was diagnosed with peripheral artery disease. It seemed her ticker was in trouble. But her health problems marked the beginning of her work as an advocate for women and heart disease. Johnson-Wahlberg, a computer consultant, is 42.
