Conference to focus diabetes in blacks
Diabetes is a disease that the African-American community knows only too well. One in four African-American women 50 or older is diabetic. Black men are nearly twice as likely to die of the disease as white men. Rates of complication from the disease, such as kidney failure or amputations, are higher among the African-American community.
