Haven't tuned into a new release from Kiwi oddball Chris Knox in quite some time;
1992's excellent Croaker was the last one I heard. There has been a slew of
releases in the meantime, what with a handful of solo records and Tall Dwarfs
(Chris' full-time, long-running duo with Alex Bathgate, who himself released his
first solo LP last year) albums, and, lo and behold, here's yet another. No
discernible loss of quality here -- Knox's signature sound (tape loops, his
trademark four-track "rrroooaaarrr" guitar sound, somewhat Beatles-esque
songwriting, and offbeat percussion) is still intact, with tracks which are
alternately goofy and heartfelt. I'll always have room on the shelf for a new
record from Mr. Knox. Quite a stand-up fellow, and reportedly quite good live --
go see the man, and buy him a pint for me.
