Mark Nale | Deer hunters faced with new three-points-to-a-side regulation
While archery hunters have been hunting under the new antler restrictions for the past six weeks, the vast majority of deer hunters will be exposed to the new law in just 15 days. Centre County's buck hunters will be required to pass over any buck having fewer than three antler points on one side of its rack.

MORE OUTDOORS NEWS FROM CDT

Project Feeder Watch on the lookout for birds
The recent cold snap has brought increased activity at Centre County bird feeders. Dark-eyed juncos have arrived from the north and chickadees, titmice, cardinals and nuthatches are making regular trips for sunflower seeds. The colder weather also means that it is time for Project Feeder Watch, Cornell Lab of Ornithology's oldest public participation program.

Nature's Corner | Black oak
The rust-colored oaks of the mixed hardwood forests of central Pennsylvania are some of the last trees to hold their leaves and show their color each autumn. A common and important member of these mostly oak woodlands is the stately black oak tree.

Kayaking
Local paddlers in the Bellefonte Slalom, the final race of the Penn Cup Series, took a plethora of first places, not unexpected. Matt Weldon of Howard had the fastest time of the day, winning the kayak AB class in 98 seconds. Twenty of the participants were local youth, all representing the Mach One Slalom Team.
