NHL | Five Islanders score to beat Panthers, 5-3
Associated Press

Five Islanders scored to pace New York to a 5-3 victory over the Florida Panthers last night.

Alexei Yashin, Kenny Jonsson, Claude Lapointe, Adrian Aucoin and Aaron Asham scored for New York, which got 18 saves from Chris Osgood.

Stephane Matteau, Lance Ward and Brad Ference scored for the Panthers.

Senators 2, Bruins 2

BOSTON - Brian Rolston scored to tie it in the third period and Steve Shields stopped 30 shots to remain unbeaten as Boston tied Ottawa.

Rolston scored to help the Bruins tie their home opener and move to 4-1-2.

Marian Hossa beat Shields to give Ottawa the lead 4 minutes, 36 seconds into the third.

Boston scored just 22 seconds in when Hal Gill lofted a shot in from the blue line.

Sharks 2, Predators 1

NASHVILLE - Teemu Selanne scored in the first period and Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 20 shots as San Jose beat Nashville.

Nashville's Andy Delmore scored a power-play goal at 9:54.

Jonathan Cheechoo helped seal the Sharks' win with a second-period goal.

Wild 3, Blackhawks 2

CHICAGO - Andrew Brunette scored twice in the third period and backup goalie Dwayne Roloson stopped 24 shots for his first win this season as Minnesota defeated Chicago.

Brunette's power-play goal at 6:08 of the third snapped a 1-1 tie. His even-strength goal at 10:07 made it 3-1.

Blues 2, Oilers 1

EDMONTON, Alberta - Keith Tkachuk snapped a tie at 14:28 of the third period, and Cody Rudkowsky made 10 saves in relief for his NHL debut to lead St. Louis over Edmonton.

Stars 3, Flames 3

CALGARY, Alberta - Jere Lehtinen scored with 2:49 left in the third period, lifting Dallas into a tie with Calgary.

Avalanche 3, Coyotes 2

PHOENIX - Rob Blake scored the go-ahead goal as Colorado rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat Phoenix in Patrick Roy's record-setting 972d game.

Roy, who passed Terry Sawchuk for the most games by a goaltender, had 27 saves in his 519th win, also an NHL record.

Canucks 2, Mighty Ducks 2

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Paul Kariya scored a shorthanded goal in the third period and rookie Martin Gerber made 30 saves as Anaheim rallied twice to tie Vancouver.
