Soggy success
Four David Akers field goals and stingy defense helped the Eagles overcome a gloomy offensive day to beat the Chicago Bears 19-13 under bleak skies in Champaign, Ill.

FLYERS

Flyers keep winning while top line misfires
There was a time in the not-so-distant past when the Flyers would stop winning if their top scorers stopped scoring. Not so this season. The Flyers' top skill line of Simon Gagne, Keith Primeau and Justin Williams has two wingers pressing for goals. Yet the Flyers are the No. 1 team in the Eastern Conference with 18 points.

SIXERS

Any way you say it, MacCulloch's ailing
You say Mah-cull-uh, he says Mah-cull-uk. You say Todd MacCulloch needs to be on the court longer for the 76ers, neither he nor coach Larry Brown argues the point.

PHILLIES

Glavine latest star wooed by the Phils
The Phillies' free-agent quest is getting more and more interesting. They will give first baseman Jim Thome a tour of their new ballpark site on Thursday, and they have zeroed in on Atlanta lefthander Tom Glavine as a top pitching priority.

   Freewheeling offense a bye goner?
Rich Hofmann | Because it's still the exhibition season for the NFL's good teams, the Eagles really don't have a cause for worry, not yet. Spells such as this one happen to teams. They still have a couple of weeks to get things figured out.
