David E. Mann Jr., 80, a professor of pharmacology who used humor to connect with the world around him, especially with his students at Temple University, died Sunday of a cerebral hemorrhage at Abington Memorial Hospital.

Frank Mazzara | Copy editor, 84
Frank Mazzara, 84, a retired copy editor for The Inquirer, died Monday at his home in Northeast Philadelphia of complications following a stroke.

Winifred Ann Jarvis | Executive secretary, 83
Winifred Ann Jarvis, 83, of Clifton Heights, a retired executive secretary, died of aspiration pneumonia Saturday at Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Marie P. Bauers | Foundation volunteer, 79
Marie P. Sklaris Bauers, 79, of Hilltown, a former tutor at Abington High School and former president of the volunteer association of the Pearl S. Buck Foundation, died of pulmonary fibrosis Monday at Doylestown Hospital.

James E. Kilpatrick Sr. | Plumbing contractor, 82
James E. Kilpatrick Sr., 82, former owner of a plumbing and heating company, died of lung cancer Sunday at his home in Media. Born in South Philadelphia, Mr. Kilpatrick attended Overbrook High School and worked briefly at General Electric Inc. in Philadelphia before serving overseas with the Marine Corps. He was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II and was discharged in 1945.

William Broadhurst Sparks, a lawyer and behind-the-scenes activist in the Gloucester County Republican Party for nearly 20 years, died of a heart attack Saturday. He was 45.

M.R. Shaull, 82, professor, missionary
The Rev. M. Richard Shaull, 82, a retired professor at Princeton Theological Seminary and a Presbyterian missionary, died of cancer Friday at his home in Ardmore.

Nathaniel G. Berk, 92, former chairman of the department of medicine at Albert Einstein Medical Center, died Saturday of pneumonia at JFK Hospital in Atlantis, Fla.

Loretta Veigel Bub | Retired Temple worker, 95
Loretta Veigel Bub, 95, a retired administrative assistant at Temple University and talented gardener, died of complications from Alzheimer's disease Friday at Spring House Estates, a retirement community in Fort Washington.

Betty Jane Risell | Volunteer EMS founder, 61
Betty Jane Wentz Risell, 61, of Skippack, a homemaker and a founder of Skippack Emergency Medical Services, died of complications from multiple sclerosis Saturday at home.

John A. Vanderslice | Police officer, 69
John A. Vanderslice, 69, a retired Philadelphia police officer, died Friday at his home in Northeast Philadelphia of complications following a stroke.

Rev. Lafayette F. Gooding Jr., pastor of Germantown church
The Rev. Lafayette F. Gooding Jr., whose second career as a minister saw him speak out on issues of social justice, died last week of congestive heart failure. He was 83.

Philip Brett | Musicologist, 64
Philip Brett, 64, a University of California, Los Angeles, musicologist who shook the foundations of his discipline by advocating the importance of gender and sexuality in the study of music, died of cancer Oct. 16 at his home in Los Angeles.

Jacques Massu | Gaullist general, 94
Gen. Jacques Massu, 94, a staunch supporter of Gen. Charles de Gaulle and a key figure in the French war in Algeria, died Saturday at his home in Conflans-sur-Loing, just south of Paris.

James J. O'Malley | Chief financial officer, 51
James J. O'Malley, 51, chief financial officer for Philadelphia medical firms, died Friday in an automobile accident in Hammonton, N.J.

Louis L. Pytlewski | Retired professor, 70
Louis L. Pytlewski, 70, of the Torresdale section of Philadelphia, a retired chemistry professor at Drexel University, died of a heart attack Thursday.

Richard Harris, 72, beloved Irish actor
Richard Harris, 72, the irascible, craggy-faced, Irish-born actor perhaps best known as King Arthur in the 1967 film musical Camelot and more recently as the wise old wizard headmaster Albus Dumbledore in the two "Harry Potter" films, died Friday in a London hospital.

Msgr. Daniel J. Norton; served as priest in Brazil
Msgr. Daniel James Norton, 63, formerly of Wildwood, a missionary who spent nearly 30 years as a parish priest in Brazil, died of heart failure Tuesday at a hospital in Goiania, Brazil.

Rudolph A. Biborosch, 91, retired bank vice president
Rudolph A. Biborosch, 91, a retired executive vice president of First Pennsylvania Bank and creator of a scoring system for loan counselors, died of pneumonia Monday at White Horse Village, a retirement community in Edgmont.

Walter M. Aikman | Venture capitalist, 74
Walter M. Aikman, 74, who founded his own Philadelphia investment firm, died Monday of heart failure at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

John F. Forline | Auditor, 53
John F. Forline, 53, a Welfare Department auditor who loved children and baseball, died Tuesday of a heart attack at his home in South Philadelphia.

Richard Harris, Irish film actor
Irish actor Richard Harris, the roistering star of screen gems such as A Man Called Horse and This Sporting Life and, later, wise old Professor Dumbledore in two Harry Potter movies, died yesterday at a London hospital. He was 72.

Harry Hay, pioneering activist for gay rights
Harry Hay, a pioneering activist in the gay-rights movement, died Thursday, according to family members who said he had suffered from lung cancer. He was 90.

Wearn and Margaret Heinz, life partners
Wearn D. and Margaret G. Heinz, both 85, partners in a landmark Juniata Park tavern as well as a marriage that lasted 60 years, died within hours of each other Tuesday.

William H. Hewitt | Product manager, 73
William H. Hewitt, 73, who worked for many years in the pharmaceutical industry, died Wednesday of lung cancer at his home in Malvern.

Nathan Lane Jr., 92, a retired engineer, died Wednesday of leukemia at Waverly Heights, a retirement home in Gladwyne. Before moving to Waverly Heights in 1998, he had been a longtime resident of Bala Cynwyd.

Ann Baldwin Luckman, 76, of Abington, a retired physical-education teacher and corporate secretary for an equipment-manufacturing company, died of ovarian cancer Tuesday at Abington Memorial Hospital.

Adolph Green, writer, lyricist
Every day - or so they swore - Betty Comden and Adolph Green met and worked, whether writing a new Broadway show or revising one of their many classics. However, the promise of another show, another song, ended with Mr. Green's death on Wednesday at age 87.

Thomas J. Johnson | Retired pressman, 82
