JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A man faces assault and battery charges for alleged intimidation of witnesses to a drive-by shooting in which three people were killed.
Michael Davis, 25, arrested Thursday, remained in custody Monday in lieu of $75,000 bail, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's office.
Police said Davis is described as an associate of three men indicted on first-degree murder charges for the Sept. 26 shooting deaths. One of the murder victims was 12 and a second was 13.
Police said Davis is accused of grabbing and punching one witness to the killing. A shot was fired during the Oct. 10 chase, witnesses said, but it was unclear if Davis was the gunman.
On the same day, Davis was allegedly present when another man tried to hit a second witness to the shootings, according to police reports.
The murder defendants, Latroy Bouknight, Carlton Lumpkins and Maurice Silas, all pleaded innocent. If convicted, prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty. A hearing for Davis is set for Nov. 18.
