Mighty Ducks' Oates to have surgery

Adam Oates, who broke his left hand during the Anaheim Mighty Ducks' 2-2 tie in Vancouver, will undergo surgery to speed up the healing process, team spokesman Alex Gilchrist said.

The operation to place screws into Oates' hand will take place Saturday, Gilchrist said, adding that a timetable for the return of the 40-year-old center had not been set.

The decision to have surgery was made Friday after Oates was examined by team doctors.

Oates was injured when he was slashed while Andy McDonald scored the Ducks' first goal early in the second period Thursday night.
