FEATURED TODAY

Gail Shister | PBS president begs to differ with fund-raising habits
PBS president Pat Mitchell refuses to pledge allegiance to pledge drives. "Every time I meet someone, they say, 'Why do you guys do all that pledge stuff?' We're turning off loyal viewers. They find it irritating. There's got to be a way that's not so intrusive."

The clock starts ticking at 9 tomorrow night - that's 8 a.m. in "24" time, producers having apparently opted to begin and end the 24-episode season in daylight - and unless you spent the past five months on roller-coasters, your heart may not be in shape for the ride.

Jonathan Storm | TV shakes out, shapes up
Good news in the TV biz means bad news for you, Mr. and Mrs. Viewer (and all you young Viewers, too). This season's freshman class of broadcast series, widely criticized as one of the most uninspired in years, could turn out to be a solid success in the ratings.
