Admirals steam past Phantoms
Compiled By The Inquirer Staff

Peter White is the leading scorer in Phantoms history, and he scored a key goal again last night.

Unfortunately for Philadelphia, he now plays for Norfolk, and his goal early in the third period gave the Admirals a 3-2 win in the AHL game at the First Union Spectrum.

White, who compiled 361 points for the Phantoms from 1996 to 2000, followed a miss by Mike Peluso for his fifth goal of the season and first game-winner.

Peluso finished with a goal and two assists. Goaltender Michael Leighton made 26 saves for Norfolk, which leads the AHL's South Division with 11 points.

Rookie goaltender Antero Niittymaki stopped 20 shots for the Phantoms, who dropped their second in a row after a 2-0 start.

Norfolk jumped out to a 1-0 lead less than four minutes into the game on Peluso's fifth goal of the year.

Casey Hankinson doubled the Admirals' lead at the 6-minute, 54-second mark when he took a pass from Peluso at the blue line, skated in a few strides, and blasted a slapshot over Niittymaki's right shoulder.

The Phantoms got on the board later in the first period after Peluso was sent off for tripping. Mark Greig and David Harlock worked the puck to Andre Savage, who streaked across the crease and backhanded a shot past Leighton.

Ian MacNeil scored on a rebound to make it 2-2 with 1:32 remaining in the second period. It was his first goal of the year.
