About Jane Eisner
Jane Eisner began writing her column in 2000, after serving as a reporter, City Hall bureau chief, foreign correspondent and in many editing positions for two decades at The Inquirer. During her tenure as Editorial Page Editor from 1994 to 1999, the editorial board initiated such features as Young Voices, Community Voices and the award-winning Citizen Voices projects.

This just in: A new study has found that only about one-third of U.S. workers who call in sick actually are. Now, this may strike you as one of those obvious illustrations of the fallibility of human nature, like the studies showing that more people say they voted than actually did, or say they eat less than their dress size would imply.
