Seahawks' Dilfer Out for Season

Seattle quarterback Trent Dilfer had surgery Monday on his torn right Achilles' tendon and is out for the season.

Dilfer was injured during the second quarter of Sunday's 17-14 win over Dallas.

Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said Matt Hasselbeck will replace Dilfer as the starter but plans to work out several quarterbacks Tuesday. Among them is former Colts, Redskins and Falcons signal-caller Jeff George.

"Jeff will be one of them," Holmgren said, declining to identify any others.

Dilfer took an awkward step as he dropped back to pass. He still was able to roll out to his right to avoid defenders and complete the pass to Shaun Alexander for 8 yards.

As soon as Dilfer let go of the ball, he fell to the ground and pointed to his right leg.

Dilfer, who went 7-of-12 for 46 yards with an interception, was replaced by Hasselbeck, who was 12-of-19 for 131 yards with an interception.

Dilfer missed Seattle's season opener after spraining his right knee during a preseason game. He was 94-of-168 for 1,182 yards with four touchdowns and six interceptions since returning.
