Getting there

Here's the information you'll need to plan a weekend trip to a winery in the Brandywine or Lehigh Valley. The state has named this coming October Pennsylvania Wine Month, to celebrate harvest time.

BRANDYWINE VALLEY:

Note: Chaddsford Winery is open seven days a week for visitors to tour the winemaking and barrel aging cellars, taste the current vintage, browse the gift shop, or picnic on the outdoor deck and grounds.

Directions: From Philadelphia: Take I-95 South to Route 322 West for 7 miles, then left onto U.S. 1.

Directions: Take U.S. Route 422 to Douglassville; head north on PA 662 for 3 miles to Amityville; Make a right on to Blacksmith Road, then first right onto Levengood Road Go 0.8 miles to winery.

Retail hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday & Saturday; noon-6 p.m. Sunday or by appointment.

Blue Mountain Wineries

Directions: From Philadelphia & South: Take the Northeast Extension of the PA Turnpike (476N.) to the Lehigh Valley Interchange. Go West on Route 22 to Route 100N. Take Route 100N. Route 309N. to Route 143. Turn left onto Route 143 to New Tripoli and go ¼ mile to Madison Street, at the Blue Ridge Hotel. Stay on Madison Street for 1 mile to Grape Vine Drive, turn right and follow the signs.

Note: Pinnacle Ridge is a small, family-owned vineyard and winery operating in Pennsylvania Dutch Country. The winery is located in a charming, renovated Pennsylvania Bank Barn complete with hex signs. Offerings emphasize sparkling wines and dry table wines.

Directions: From I-78 take exit 12- Kutztown/Route 737. Go north on Route 737 to blinking red light (Old Route 22). Turn right. Winery on left side ¾ mile.

Clover Hill Vineyard and Winery

Directions: From I-78, take Exit 49A (Route 100 South) At the second traffic light, turn right onto Schantz Road. Travel 2.8 miles and turn left onto Newtown Road. The winery is the first driveway on the right. For Robesonia hours and directions, call 610-693-8383.
