Week 8: Fly with the Eagles, play on the Cowboys' field
This Philly.com contest is sponsored by Major League Vacations

Major League Vacations Picture it: The season is almost over. The Eagles are in Dallas for a renewal of the teams' bitter rivalry. In all likelihood, much more is at stake as the playoffs near. How'd you like to be there?

It gets better. For this trip (Dec. 20-23, 2002), the Eagles and Cowboys have the field on Saturday night and you have the field on Sunday afternoon -- exclusively for everyone traveling with Major League Vacations!

Spend your Sunday afternoon throwing and catching touchdown passes in the same end zone as Donovan McNabb, Chad Lewis, Duce Staley and Emmitt Smith! You can also kick a field goal, see how many yards you can punt the ball, and enjoy other friendly competition with football fans from around the country.

But to qualify, you need to know some Eagles triva. Contestants must correctly answer a question on the history of the Eagles-Cowboys rivalry. A new question will be posted each Thursday. Each week, a winner will be randomly drawn from among entries with the correct answer. This contest runs from Sept. 5, 2002, to Dec. 8, 2002.

All weekly winners are then eligible for the final, random Grand Prize drawing, to be conducted on Dec. 9, 2002.

This prize package includes:

-- Round-trip airfare
-- Mid-size rental car with unlimited mileage
-- Four days/three nights deluxe downtown hotel accommodations, with free daily breakfast and valet parking
-- Eagles vs. Cowboys game tickets at Texas Stadium, and transportation to the game
-- Private access to the playing field at Texas Stadium on Sunday afternoon
-- And much more!

After you enter an answer, fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page, and click on the SUBMIT button to enter.

We'll need your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address for prize notification purposes, so please make sure you complete the contact form before submitting your entry.

Thank you, and good luck!

For more information on this trip, check out the the Major League Vacations Web site.

This week's question:

There was one non-strike season when the Eagles won only one home game, and that victory came against the Cowboys. What was the year, and what was the score of the game? Hint: The Birds also won just one home game in 1968, but that wasn't the year.

Your answer

Previous weekly winners:

Week 7 -- Chris Burnley, Norristown, PA
Correct answer: The Eagles won the first three Monday Night Football matchups with the Cowboys, but Dallas has won every meeting since then to take a 5-3 lead in the prime time series. The last MNF meeting between the teams took place Nov. 2, 1998, when Dallas rolled to a 34-0 victory.

Week 6 -- Vince Allegretto, King of Prussia, PA
Correct answer: Wes Hopkins was the difference-maker when the Eagles upset the Cowboys 16-14 on Oct. 20, 1985. He had two interceptions and recovered a Tony Dorsett fumble as the Birds knocked off Dallas at the Vet.

Week 5 -- Jacqueline Moore, Voorhees, NJ
Correct answer: After suffering through a 56-7 defeat on Oct. 9, 1966 that ranks as the third-worst loss in team history, the Eagles rebounded in the rematch with the Cowboys on Nov. 6, edging Dallas 24-23. Alas, the Cowboys went on to win the conference with a 10-3-1 record, while the Eagles were second at 9-5.

Week 4 -- Jennifer Caporale, Marmora, NJ
Correct answer: Buddy Ryan had the reputation as the Cowboy killer, but his .800 winning percentage against Dallas (8-2) runs second to that of current coach Andy Reid at 85.7 percent (6-1).

Week 3 -- Frank Villari, Marlton, NJ
Correct answer: Reserve tight end Jay Saldi broke through to block the kick. Faldi caught only 11 passes for the Cowboys that year, but his play on special teams helped Dallas to the Super Bowl.

Week 2 -- John Snowden, Neptune, NJ
Correct answer: Wide receiver Harold Carmichael closed his career by playing in two games for Dallas in 1984. He caught just one pass for 7 yards and 0 TDs as a Cowboy, exactly the same as he did against Dallas in the 1980 NFC Championship game (won by the Eagles 20-7).

Week 1 -- Craig Span, Brooklyn, NY
Correct answer: The Eagles and Cowboys met just once in 1960. That was the Cowboys' first year in the league. The Eagles won the game 27-25, and went on to capture their last NFL Championship.
