   No time to wallow for Lions
After dealing Penn State its second Big Ten loss in three games, Michigan coach Lloyd Carr called the Nittany Lions one of the "top two or three teams" in the conference. That's undoubtedly small consolation for Penn State after its 27-24 overtime heartbreaker Saturday.

The slogan nearly was "Wake up the echoes." But Courtney Schuster wanted something unique for the front of the University of Notre Dame's annual student fundraiser known as The Shirt. She yearned for a catchy phrase to symbolize a storied football team trying to reclaim past greatness under a new coach.

Michigan defensive back Zia Combs was hospitalized after being taken off the field on a stretcher early in the first quarter against Penn State on Saturday.

Florida St. Fails in Miami Upset Bid
Thanks to yet another missed field goal by a Florida State kicker in the final seconds, No. 1 Miami hung on for a 28-27 victory over the ninth-ranked Seminoles on Saturday. The Hurricanes (6-0) extended the nation's longest winning streak to 28 games, but the defending national champions proved they're not invincible after all.

Griffin Carries Oklahoma Past Texas
Just as the Red River shootout started to slip away from the Oklahoma Sooners, Quentin Griffin ran to the rescue - and all over the Texas Longhorns. Griffin scooped up a loose ball to score the go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter, ran 17 yards for the game-clinching score with 3:02 left and finished with a career-high 248 yards to carry the No. 2 Sooners past the No. 3 Longhorns 35-24 Saturday.

Air Force Bounces BYU 52-9
Chance Harridge ran for four touchdowns for the second straight game, and No. 21 Air Force forced five turnovers as the Falcons beat Brigham Young 52-9 Saturday night.

So. Cal Rallies Past California
Sultan McCullough carried 39 times for 176 yards and the go-ahead touchdown as No. 20 Southern California rallied to beat California 30-28 Saturday.

Just when Florida thought it couldn't get any worse, another Saturday rolled around.

Jason Gesser passed for 297 yards and threw two of his three touchdown passes to Jonathan Smith as No. 12 Washington State beat Stanford 36-11 Saturday.

Oregon and UCLA played yet another game that wasn't decided until the fourth quarter.
