Rating: 9.0
Even though are widely respected and damn near legendary in the
industrial music scene, KMFDM is one of those groups that will
never break the mainstream. Their latest release, a
six- track remix disc titled MDFMK, is one of the best recent
albums of the genre, but it will never get the airplay it deserves.
Self- proclaimed "industrial terrorists," KMFDM plays up their
comparisons to Ministry, Skinny Puppy, and even Sisters of Mercy,
by combining their characteristic new- wave guitar riffs with deep, brooding
vocals, elements made popular by the original dark- siders in the early-
to- mid 1980s.
Remixes of songs like "Anarchy," "Megalomaniac" and "Unfit" are even
more driving and powerful than the stuff we're used to hearing from
KMFDM. At times, the remixes also reveal more of a passion for
experimentation. But the best attribute KMFDM exercises on the
record is that they cover both sides of the aisle, whether it be
thrashing a guitar or busting a move. After all, even the best
industrial rock song loses some of its luster if you can't dance to it.
